Airflow Optimization & Recirculation Analysis
RIA GULF performed an advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis for a chiller cluster located at Sindalah Island, NEOM, Saudi Arabia. The study aimed to evaluate airflow behavior, identify recirculation patterns, and validate operational efficiency to ensure optimal thermal performance of the cooling infrastructure.
Project Overview
A high-accuracy numerical model was developed to simulate the chillers along with the surrounding building geometry. The analysis incorporated airflow dynamics, heat transfer, and environmental conditions to replicate realistic operating scenarios and understand their impact on chiller performance.
Objectives of the Study
The CFD simulation was conducted to:
- Identify and analyze airflow recirculation patterns around the chiller cluster
- Evaluate the impact of surrounding structures on inlet air temperature
- Ensure chillers receive ambient wind temperature air without heat buildup
- Validate system efficiency under realistic environmental conditions
- Support design optimization to enhance cooling performance
Outcome
The CFD results provided detailed insights into airflow movement and thermal interactions within the chiller area. Based on the findings, the design was optimized to minimize recirculation, maintain desired inlet temperatures, and improve overall system efficiency and reliability.
