CFD Analysis for Thermal Comfort & Ventilation Performance
RIA GULF conducted a comprehensive Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to evaluate the performance of an outdoor fresh-air cooling system implemented for a tyre workshop in Doha, Qatar. The study focused on understanding the effectiveness of the cooling strategy under extreme summer ambient conditions, typical of the region.
Project Overview
The CFD analysis assessed how fresh cold air supplied through ducts interacts with the surrounding environment and prevailing north-west wind. A detailed three-dimensional model of the workshop and its surroundings was developed to simulate realistic airflow and temperature behavior within and around the workspace.
Objectives of the Study
The primary objectives of the CFD simulation were to:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of fresh air–based outdoor cooling
- Assess natural ventilation performance under combined mechanical and wind-driven airflow
- Analyze airflow patterns and velocity distribution within the workshop area
- Study temperature distribution and thermal comfort at multiple occupant-relevant heights
- Examine the impact of north-west wind on cooling efficiency
- Identify hot spots and stagnant air zones
- Provide design recommendations to improve cooling effectiveness and thermal comfort
Outcome
The CFD results offered clear insights into airflow behavior, temperature stratification, and wind interaction effects, enabling informed decisions to enhance thermal comfort, ventilation efficiency, and overall outdoor working conditions for the tyre workshop.
