CFD Analysis for Atrium Thermal Comfort

RIA GULF successfully delivered a detailed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis for the New Palace of Justice, Kuwait, focusing on evaluating and optimizing thermal comfort conditions within the ground-level atrium.

A high-fidelity three-dimensional virtual model of the atrium was developed to accurately simulate airflow patterns, temperature distribution, and key thermal comfort parameters. The simulations enabled a clear understanding of how conditioned and ambient air interacts within the large open space, helping identify zones of discomfort and opportunities for improvement.

Scope & Highlights

The CFD analysis was performed to:

  • Detailed 3D CFD modeling of the atrium volume
  • Simulation of airflow behavior and temperature stratification
  • Assessment of thermal comfort at occupant level
  • Identification of hot spots, stagnant zones, and airflow inefficiencies
  • Technical insights to support HVAC design optimization and performance validation

Outcome

The CFD outcomes provided actionable recommendations to enhance occupant comfort, support efficient HVAC operation, and ensure the atrium performs as intended under realistic operating conditions.
